clinicals are being difficult (i.e., internship to finish school). the hospital here in santa rosa has declined to give me student privileges, stating that the (certified nurse midwives) CNMs I work with are not employees of the hospital, and therefore can not precept me. this is despite the fact the there is a current contract between my school and the hospital, which was JUST SIGNED/renewed on 27 January! and also despite the fact that 4 or 5 students from my school have previously worked with this same OB/GYN office and did deliveries at this hospital!

I am moving to Phoenix next week for approximately 6 weeks to FINALLY complete my training! I will be a CNM soon!!

First off I want to relieve your fears that you probably don’t or at least I hope you don’t have AIDS.

When I came home 3 days ago I heard what was obviously mediocre sex going on in my bedroom. Since I quickly made the deduction that someone had probably not broken into my apartment for some quick copulation I figured I had just caught my wife cheating on me which I had long suspected. Your ofish grunts were so loud that I actually had to reopen the door and slam it again for you two to hear me. I stood in the entry for a while as I heard you both scramble before calling out that I was home.

I am sick of being sick.

I am going to pretend to do homework now.

my cat is snoring! he is funny. he is a super loud purrer, too. ( I am talking about Puddin'; he is a tuxedo cat. we have 3 other cats, plus also 2 dogs).

I am sick. I have been sick for about a week. sucks, because I missed my last 4 days of clinicals. I am in school. I am working on my masters.

OK wait, let me back up a little. in July, Glenn and I moved back to the bay area. we are living in santa rosa. we moved here so I could do the clinical portion of my master's degree and finish school. I have been working as a student nurse midwife at women's health and birth center. it has been super fab! I have got to learn lots about all the stuff i studied these past 2 years. I have delivered 9 babies. anyway, I was to be here at the birth center through the end of this month, but I got sick last week,. so I missed my last 4 days in clinic, plus I am also missing out on births. sucks. so I have been working on getting in all my written work for school. slowly slowly getting there! I have a couple more small assignments to work on, and one huuuuuge paper. I am going to be starting at another clinical site in mid december to early january - probably early january, so i will get to take a break once that last paper is done, which will likely be 18 december (when it is due). but maybe earlier. anyway. so I am going to this new site in January, and am PLANNING to be done by the end of february. i was planning to be done be the end of the year, but that is not happening.

tomorrow is thanksgiving; we are going to Lyon's, whoo!! Glenn has never been to a Lyon's. I haven't been to one in years, so I am pretty excited.

anyway, I just want to be not sick anymore. and i want to go out to the city, go clubbing. and I want to be done with school. even when I'm done, there is still more, but maybe i will explain that another time.

so it looks like we are going to move to burlingame in march, if my plan works, WHOO!! YAY!!

1.  I quit my job last week.  I am very happy about this.  no income and no insurance sucks balls though.  I took out more student loans to make up for the lost income.  I may regret this later when I am trying to pay back $60k in loans instead of $45K, but I sure am pretty happy about it right now!

2.  speaking of school, I finished my 6th term yesterday morning.  I still have my 4.0gpa, whoo!  In case you are curious, I am working on my masters, and when I am done I will be a certified nurse midwife and a women's health nurse practitioner.  FWIW, the grading scale in grad school is A, B, F!!  A 79% is a fail!!  SCARY!!

3.  Late in june/early july I am moving to SANTA ROSA!!  Glenn is not moving until the end of the year, when we hope to settle in Burlingame.  In Santa Rosa, I will be doing my clinicals for school (kind-of an internship/residency) at a birth center!!!  I am super super excited about this.  the clients birth about 60% at the birth center, about 40% at the hospital (sutter btw), so it will be an interesting mix!!  I am really excited to be coming home!!

A hugely pregnant woman got on the public/city bus just as the elastic in her granny panties gave way and fell to her ankles.  So she stepped out of them and kicked them out the still open bus door!!

OMG, hilarious, and brave for admitting it, too.  If I had seen someone do that, I would not have been able to control my laughter!!  Poor thing!!

holy crap, in 4.5 hours (at exactly 10:46 am pacific time) I will be 40.  It's my birthday, but I'm still 39 for a few more hours!!  I'm pushing it as far as I can!!

update, since I'm here and haven't been updating:

I've been working in perinatal nursing since October of '06.  I bounced back and forth between postpartum and labor and delivery until May of this year at North Vista Hospital, when I got fired.  I don't want to talk about it.  Let me just say management at NVH sux!  Anyway, I got another *better* job a couple of weeks later at Summerlin Hospital, which is where Glenn works.  I now work *only* in L&D!!  no more floating/getting stuck in postpartum for me!!  So far the managers seem nice, and fair.  I'm making $8 more/hr.  Glenn got a referral bonus, and I got a sign-on bonus and a retention bonus.  Those bonuses will pay us about $3K between now and the next year.  I'll get about another $2k if I stay a whole second year, but am not planning on that. 

I am now in grad school.  At the end of next month I will be finishing my first year.  In december of NEXT year I will be finished, if all goes as planned, and will have my MSN/master's of science in nursing.  I will be able to take the tests for and obtain my licenses to become a CNM/certified nurse midwife as well as a WHNP/women's health nurse practitioner.  so that's why I haven't been too active on LJ.  maybe I'll try to update a little more often.  I'm usually up to my tits in books, papers, and exams, though!!

Glenn and I are planning to return to the SFBA at the end of next year, or VERY early 2010!!  I can't wait!!  especially since, for the 2nd time, I found a fucking scorpion in YES IN my house this am!!  soooo done with this desert!!

tonight I made my travel plans.  I fly into oakland 730 pm on 02 april, a Wednesday; I’m renting a car.  I'll hang out in the SFBA til saturday, when I'll drive to Sacto til monday; then I come back to SF for one more night, and I fly out of oakland like 830 pm on tuesday 08 april.  Right now I have a reservation at the Cathedral Hill Hotel on Van Ness at Geary for Wednesday/Thursday/Friday nights the 2nd/3rd/4th.  Saturday and Sunday nights I am staying where we're having the nursing conference Sunday, Marriott Springhill Suites on Venture Oaks Way, exit 521 off the 5.  Monday the 7th I return to Cathedral Hill, which surprisingly was reasonable w/ internet rate: $91/room + $20/parking = $111/night.  Plus, I am planning to take cabs back and forth to clubs, and what I know of the city, this won't be ridiculously out of the way - but please help me w/ this if you know if someplace better that is safe (I’ll be alone), reasonable and "central" to clubs.  This is my club schedule!!:

I need a petsitter/housesitter!! know of anyone? I need someone who comes and stays at my house. I have 4 cats and 2 dogs. the dogs can stand to be locked up for a maximum of 12 hours a day. I'd like them to have company 12 hours a day. or something!

so, I was meant to post this in August! But I suck!! See, at my burlesque show last August, Burlesque Birthday Bash, it was actually my birthday. And as a present my very very special and sweet friend Michelle made me this beautiful painting. Isn't it gorgeous?!! AND I had just walked in to the place, over an hour later than I expected to, to find 200+ people waiting for it to be midnight and for my performance. OK, I was expecting 100-150 people.  I was way stressed because I was running late, although the show wasn't starting for like 30 minutes. Anyway, I was rude and unappriciative when I received this fabulous gift. SO: MICHELLE!! I AM SORRY!! I REALLLLLLY REALLLLLLY LOVE IT! You are so important to me and I'm so glad we are friends! Hugs and Kisses!!

anyway, the new job is going really well.  I'm happy there!  it's a ghetto hospital in the ghetto part of town.  but I like it!  it's been interesting!  and oooooh, soon I'll be insured again!  Wow!

Burlesque is going well, too!  I had a show 03 November, and then an encore presentation this past Monday night.  Burlesque has seriously been one of the best things to ever happen to me!  I am loving it.  Looks like my NEXT show will be 05 January!!  And the person who's making my costume totally KICKS ASS!  YAY!!

there's an important entry I've been needing to write since August!  so maybe soon!!

I'm happy because last night at the club I got some good news and something happy happened!  And that's all I'm sayin' 'bout that!  For now!

Ooh, I promised news, and then I lied and never fessed up.  However, I guess no one really noticed because my readership is way down.  Maybe because I never update?  Hmmmm.  well, that's partially because I am just lazy, and partially because I was waiting for news to share.  Then there was news!  And I got lazy!  Well, I've been kind-of busy. 

OK, so, as some of you may know, I graduated from nursing school in December of '99, took and passed my boards early in 2000, finished an RN refresher course earlier this year, and have been (finally) working as an RN since July.  I had been working for Maxim, as as agency nurse.  They mostly, almost exclusively, were sending me to the state psychiatric hospital.  They couldn't send me to a "real" hospital because you need a year of experience to go to the hospitals!  Nope, not over here!!  Also not helping was the fact that they were only calling me to work an average of about 2x/week.  This was paying the bills - barely!  But just not getting me very far. 

See, my plan is to go back to school and get my master's and become a certified nurse midwife.  Well, I am a little closer to my plan because I got a REAL job!!  In a REAL hospital!!  And I start today!!  I will be working night shifts, 12.5 hour shifts, 3x/week.  I work 7 pm to 7:30 am.  That's right!  Starting tonight!!  WHOO!!  AND it's in OB!!  They are starting me in post-partum, and in 6 months I move to Labor and Delivery!!  EEEEEEEEE!!  I'm VERY excited!  And a little bit scared.  Like nervous, but in the good way.  I'll let you know more, but not 'til Thursday.  I won't be on my computer 'til Thursday.  Working 12.5 hours plus commuting both ways for a good 1.5 hours only leaves 10 hours a day for sleeping and eating and bathing and the like.  Yah, no time for LJ!!  Aaaaaah!  Perish the thought!!  Plus the 1st 3 months are going to be busy because the hospital is requiring me to do a bunchabuncha online courses.  AND I need to take some classes to learn special types of CPR, to put it really basically.  I'll also be busy going to see doctors and chiropractors and the like.  WOW!  Health insurance!  It's quite literally been just under 4 YEARS since I've had health insurance!  What a luxury, ehh?!?

Also, burlesque is going very well - oooooh, and look at my page; I pretified it see!  Anyway, I performed last sunday, at the same club I performed at for my birthday.  But this was a different crowd - sunday night is service industry night; before I performed on a friday, which is the Goth/Industrial night.  I am also performing with Sin CIty Grind Kittens at the BIG Fetish and Fantasy Ball !  Which is kinda a pretty big deal - I'll be in 2 group numbers, and in the small room will be performing (I'm told) for approximately 200 people, and in the big room approximately 600 people.  HOLY SHITE!  That's a whole lotta mother fuckers!!  I'm super excited!  THEN not this but neeeeeeeext friday, the 3rd of November, I am performing at Krave for my fellow Goth/Industrial friends AGAIN!  YAY!  I've whipped up a new number - it's HALLOWEEN themed!!  YAY!!  It's gunna RAWK!!

I stripped on the (las vegas) strip!  At the Krave Lounge at the Aladdin!

OMG!  I am beyond overwhelmed!  There were soooo many people at my show last night!!!  On an average night there are 150 people that come to the club.  Last night right at the end of the show doors were about 225!  Plus there's a bunch of people that work there!  And a few people came over from the other/main side to watch!  And they all sang happy birthday to me!  WOW, what an experience!  It went really well too!  I went for comedy, and people laughed!  And screamed!  And applauded!  It was the best!  I'm realllllly liking performing!  But haha, check out my battle scar, the lovely bruise on my arm!  I probably should have covered it with concealer, but I felt like sharing!  During dress rehersal as I was coming off the stage I thought there were 2 stairs.  But there were 3!  So I fell down the last stair and bumped myself on the wooden railing, and scraped up my side a little too!    Before we went on last night people kept telling me "break a leg!" and I was all, "no, don't say that, I might because of what happened at dress rehersal!"  Anyway, here's one of my fav pics from my 2nd set . . . click here if you want to see all the pics!

OMG!  I am beyond overwhelmed!  There were soooo many people at my show last night!!!  On an average night there are 150 people that come to the club.  Last night right at the end of the show doors were about 225!  Plus there's a bunch of people that work there!  And a few people came over from the other/main side to watch!  And they all sang happy birthday to me!  WOW, what an experience!  It went really well too!  I went for comedy, and people laughed!  And screamed!  And applauded!  It was the best!  I'm realllllly liking performing!  But haha, check out my battle scar, the lovely bruise on my arm!  I probably should have covered it with concealer, but I felt like sharing!  During dress rehersal as I was coming off the stage I thought there were 2 stairs.  But there were 3!  So I fell down the last stair and bumped myself on the wooden railing, and scraped up my side a little too!    Before we went on last night people kept telling me "break a leg!" and I was all, "no, don't say that, I might because of what happened at dress rehersal!"  Anyway, here's one of my fav pics from my 2nd set . . . click here if you want to see all the pics!

tonight!  macaroni grill with friends!  YAY  today is my actual birthday!!

so I worked alot last week.  and this week I'm busy preparing for my show.  things have been a little hectic, but good.  anyway, I am very behind on LJ - the last entry I read was posted the 6th of August at 312 am!  I may not be catching up, and just jumping forward, especially since it'll be after the weekend before I can have the time to sit down at my computer and just screw around!!  tomorrow I have a job inter view, then it's home to reherse reherse reherse!  then thursday, more reheresing, with Dress Rehersal at 10 pm!  Friday of course is the big show!!!!!!!  Wheeeeee!  Saturday is my birthday and dinner at Macaroni Grill, and sunday I'm working cuz I've been hemorraging money!  Being a glamour-puss is hard expensive work, ya'know!!

OH!  and I have an encore presentation of my show already booked at another club!  I'll be performing again on 28 August!!  YAY!!

Anyway, I'm tired and hungry, so I'm gunna go!

I wrote this almost a week ago, but then my internet broke!  and then I worked!  and then I worked a double (my first!).  and then it was the weekend and I got busy!  soooo, here, finally, is an update!!  WHOO!

okOkOK, so much news!

Glenn was out of town from Thursday am to Sunday night, and so much exciting stuff happened, and he wasn't here to share!!  BOO!!  But I lived!

A couple of weeks ago I got a job - kind-of.  It's not  hospital job.  I'm signed up w/ some agencies so I can work per diem until I get a hospital job.  There are noNoNO benefits, but that means it pays a little more.  Or it would if they would regularly send me out on assignments!!

But I DID finally have my first ever paid shift an as RN!  WOW!!  It was exciting!  It was at Southern Nevada Adult Mental Health, last Thursday.  3 pm to 11:30 pm.  Alllllll I did was pass meds.  And I was insanely crazy busy, no pun intended!  20 patients, charge nurse, and new nurse Caryn, sooooo bewildered and confused!!  I didn't take any breaks, not even bathroom breaks, BUT I did leave on time, so I'm pretty damn impressed with myself!!  WHOO!!

Back to the weekend: OK, so, as I posted here, I had my Burlesque debut last Saturday!!!!  There were two 2-minute songs, one of which I don't know the name of, the other was "Drive-In".  There will be forthcoming photos and video of my performance!  FINALLY!  Something for my website!  (Hey JC/xelyn, finally need your help; still up for it, or too busy?  Let me know please!!)  Anyway, as soon as I have the photos and videos, I will share!  PROMISE!

OK, and BTW, I didn't drink (alcohol) at all - stone-cold SOBER!  Yup, me n my 25-pounds-overweight-ass went up on stage and shook it!  One of the first things was my fuckin' wig fell off (see icon)!  AAAAAAGH!  But apparently some people thought this was part of the act!  Hahaha!  Cuz I just put it right back on!!  I went down to pasties and g-string (plus had stockings/garter belt on)!  Afterwords I had trouble remembering details because I was so nervous and excited!  After we performed it at Take 1 Nightclub, the party moved over to The Bunkhouse, where we performed it again!  This time the music fucked-up!  Nobody but us knew the difference though!!  Heeheehee!  I wasn't as nervous, and know I did a better performance, but still am having trouble remembering details!  After that I went over to Aruba and saw my friends, and I was still so amped up I was bouncing off the fuckin' walls! Ask Barnaby! 

What I do remember (both performances): twirling my tassles like CRAZY!  WHOO!  OMG, so fun!

I am very very upset right now.  I think I just almost got attacked, Pirate-style.  Despite my use of the term “attacked Pirate-style”, I am unfortunately not joking.  I am referring to the local roller derby girl who was attacked about 3 weeks ago at a Smith’s parking lot.  That’s her name, right?  Here’s what happened to me.  Well, first off, NOTHING happened to me, but well, read on.  So I went to Food 4 Less, the one on Green Valley Pkwy in Henderson.  The cross street is Warm Springs.  I was alone.  I got there at 1 am, did big shopping, and was leaving at 3 am.  They asked me if I wanted help out to my car, and I said yes, just so I wouldn’t be alone.  I wasn’t even thinking about Pirate.  So they sent one of the stockers over to me, and we proceeded outside.  He happened to be somewhat of a big guy, but not huge and hulking.  Just outside the exit doors were 3 youngish guys.  I didn’t look really close at them, at all.  They were MAYBE 18-22???  But there were 3 of them.  The Food 4 Less guy and I come out and go to my car.  The 3 guys stayed by the front of the store for a few minutes, and then went to their car and stayed by their car for a few minutes.  The Food 4 Less guy thought it was weird that they were just hanging out in front of the store and parking lot, and said he was going to tell his boss.  Then the 3 guys got in their car and then finally decided to drive away.  It was a black Honda-civic-esque hatchback.  The whole time the Food 4 Less guy and I are loading my trunk.  So they guys slowllllllllllly drive to the side of the store, toward the back of the store.  The car was “riced-out” so I could hear the exhaust.  They were going realllllly slowly.  So we finish putting stuff in my car, I get in my car, guy goes back in store, and I drive away passing the front of the store.  As I get a few stores down but still same side of the shopping center, just a few stores down, there is a car coming toward me.  It has yellow headlights.  As I come closer, I realize it is the same car.  They have driven almost completely around the back of the parking lot and are headed directly back to the front of Food 4 Less.  WHY the FUCK were they still there?!  Why did they need to go back?!!  I got reallllly scared and drive away as fast as I could.  When I got home I called the store to find out the name of the guy who helped me to my car, and to tell him the guys were going back to the front of the store, but there was no answer.  Then I called 311 and told the police all of what I just told you, mentioning the case of Pirate.  Very very scary.  I really wonder if it was the guys who attacked Pirate, and if I was almost next.  BOO.  That was not fun.

At least I feel a little better talking about it.
